Centris pallida female? - Centris
Mecca, Riverside County, California, USA
May 26, 2005
Size: BL~ 17.5 mm
This large gray bee was taking nectar from Smoke Tree flowers at Box Canyon near Mecca early one morning. Because of its size, wing pattern with dark veins, general aspect and its Smoke Tree connection, I suspect it is a Centris pallida. Am I on the right track?

Note the size of a Smoke Tree Bud on the left side of the photo compared to the size of the bee. The buds are about 33-36% of the bee's body length. We also saw a much smaller bee on the Smoke Tree that I will post next.
