This photo shows that large spine on the hind tarsus.

And, yes, the background is still crappy.

Larra sp. - female (Larrinae, Sphecidae)
Superb shot, no matter the backgroud. With so many mole-crickets in this Guide, I was fairly sure their intimate enemy would one day appear. The almost Tiphiid-like hairy, spiny legs are an adaptation for digging when chasing after their victims.

Species Page?
I've not yet had the honor and power to create species pages bestowed upon me. It doesn't appear that this one is represnted in the guide yet. So - even though I'm [still] not "digging" the background, hopefully we can get her up there.

Thanks a lot for the ID and the props, Richard.

Specimen ID'ed To Species Level!
Dr. Frank at Univ. of Florida has confirmed that this wasp is L. bicolor It's a species with a fascinating backstory, which can be read at my weblog (linked in my signature below) or at the University of Florida "Featured Creatures" site.

I'd like to thank Dr. Frank for his timely and enthusiastic response to my ID request!
