Moved from Flies. I was wrong with Lepidomyia micheneri. The spur on R4+5 was bothering me. I am keying it out to Rhopalosyrphus carolae, using the MND(1). This genus is found in the South and into the tropics, and this is the only species in the genus in the Southwest, another is in Florida. It's based on the elongate aristate antennae, venation, the tuberculate face, etc. I'll delete the pages if a syrphid expert says I'm crazy.

Ceriines tend to have stylate, not aristate, antennae. Again, bigger syrphid buffs might tell me I'm wrong.

Sorry for all the edits on this comment. LAST EDIT: this species has been synonymized with R. guentherii

wow. what an odd thing.
something in the Ceriini? will be impatiently awaiting expert input
