Pale fly with dark bands and red eyes and tip of abdomen - Zelia - female

Pale fly with dark bands and red eyes and tip of abdomen - Zelia - Female
Española, Rio Arriba County, New Mexico, USA
July 1, 2011
Size: About 10 mm long
On my porch. Every time I got too close, it would fly away and land head down or nearly so. It was always on a bare wall or door, never anywhere with cover (which there's a lot of on my porch) or on a screen. It didn't seem interested in more or less light.

Tachinidae? Only because I see a lot of those and because it looks like a cousin of this tachinid in my yard. I'm hoping that with closer views, the present one is more interesting.

I have other shots, such as from the front or rear with the middle of the body in focus. On the other hand, some of the many shots I'm uploading may be frass.

Moved
Moved from Tachinidae. Thanks!

Tachinidae: Zelia sp.
Tachinidae: Zelia sp.

Zelia is a good call; Dr Woodley will tell
very nice series, Jerry; i wish we had all fly submissions this rich in detail.

Moved from ID Request.

Thanks, Vassili.
I wish they were all that cooperative.

Sorry I didn't move it yesterday as I said I would.

not an expert
but perhaps some type of Zelia?

Hm!
Strikingly similar to this casual observer (and I notice that the picture you linked to was from a "neighbor" of mine, at almost the same time of year).

I'll move this to Diptera tomorrow in hopes of an expert opinion (unless I get one before that time).
