Diptera, but what else? - Pollenia rudis

Diptera, but what else? - Pollenia rudis
Logy Bay, Northeast Avalon, Newfoundland/Labrador, Canada
May 25, 2006
Size: 10 mm Body Length
This fly was sitting on the outside of our house, on the wooden frame around a bedroom window. The photos have not been rotated, so where the fly is pointed down, he was pointing toward the ground. The photos were taken around 5:00 PM. His tongue was going in and out as I was taking the photos. He posed for quite a while before flying away. I would have thought this was an ordinary house fly but I think that implies Musca domestica and this does not look like the other flies currently posted as that species. Any ID?

from Dr. Woodley:
"kind of looks like Pollenia, but I can't see any golden hairs on the thorax"

from Dr. Terry Whitworth:
"Probably not a calliphorid (see non-metallic abdomen); focus isn't great but maybe muscid or tachinid"

Moved from Blow Flies.
