Yes, this is a male P. vespoides -
Moved from Pseudomasaris.
and a great photo. Do you know which Penstemon species this is?
Reminds me of Penstemon comarrhenus.

You are correct regarding Penstemon comarrhenus. I believe the kinky white hairs on the anthers cinch the ID. Also, Southwestern Colorado fits.
