Some kind of bee or fly that looks like a bee - Chrysopilus ornatus

Some kind of bee or fly that looks like a bee - Chrysopilus ornatus
Milton, Vermont, USA
July 4, 2011
Size: about 1"
Sitting on my shutters around 7:30pm I did not see it land or fly off. Looked through the guide and on google images and cannot find one like it. The shutter slats are 7/8" from top to bottom.

Chrysopilus
This is species of Chrysopilus, possibly Chrysopilus ornatus.(1) It is a fly. It is probably female because males of this kind have larger eyes.

Thanks!
I have never seen one around here before!
