Stinging Tiny Ant - Brachyponera chinensis

Stinging Tiny Ant - Brachyponera chinensis
Cornelius, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, USA
June 20, 2011
Size: 1/4"
I had a major allergic reaction to this bug that stung me in bed four times on the arm. Full body hives, swollen jaw, heart pain. We have found two more in the house over the past two weeks and one stung a friend here last night. Fortunately she had pain but no allergic response. The other was floating in my iced tea. This tiny winged ant or wasp has a black body, and it's stinger area is brownish-red as is the tip of it's mouth section.
