earwig - Forficula auricularia - female

earwig - Forficula auricularia - Female
Collegedale, Hamilton County, Tennessee, USA
May 26, 2006
Sp.?

Moved
Moved from Forficula. There's only the one species reported from the US, so there's no point in putting it at the genus level.

The dilated 2nd tarsal segment shows it's Forficulidae, and the other genera in the family known from the US can be easily eliminated, so the ID works out.

Also, this is an adult female.

European Earwig
To me, this looks like the "European Earwig" (Forficula auricularia). I would say it is a female based on its straight pincers. Use http://bugguide.net/node/view/6280 to compare.
