Ian, I caught my first specim
Ian, I caught my first specimen of this species last weekend up here in Butte County. It had the transverse bar which seems to be the typical pattern. Is the darker variant, as in this photo, fairly common?

 
The pattern here is somewhat
The pattern here is somewhat aberrant, usually the yellow transverse line across the middle of the elytra is the more common. About 75% of the specimens from the Peninsular Ranges lack this pattern, as in the photo here.
