Identification

Extremely similar to Gray Hairstreak (Strymon melinus) but with gray eyes

Range

South Texas south to Paraguay

Habitat

Disturbed areas, gardens

Season

Fall and early winter in Texas, probably year-round in Mexico

Food

Adults feed on flower nectar. Caterpillars eat foliage of a variety of species including certain legumes and the families Verbenaceae and Malphigiaceae. In Texas found on Duranta sp.

Larvae apparently tended by ants
