Blue-tipped Dancer (female?) - Argia moesta - female

Blue-tipped Dancer (female?) - Argia moesta - Female
Toledo, Lucas County, Ohio, USA
July 7, 2011
Size: about 1 inch
Was near slow river. Male blue-tipped dancers abounded.I would like to have someone confirm my ID because I'm a beginner.

Moved
Moved from Damselflies.

Moved
Moved from ID Request.

In my opinion - Argia moesta (female)

Note on this picture and yours:
The wide top pale stripe on the abdomen
The side of abdominal segment 9 is pale (no dark ventrolateral stripe)

Argia moesta?
Thanks, Wiliam. Argia moesta has also been found in our metroparks, so you may be right. I'll have to continue my investigation!

Blue-fronted Dancer - Argia apicalis - Female
I would say Blue-fronted Dancer. The stripe on the thorax is too thin and lacks the small triangle on the posterior end of that stripe that is seen in Blue-tipped.

Blue-fronted dancer
Thanks, Dan. After looking at lots of other pictures, I think you're right. The blue-fronted dancer has also be documented in the Toledo area. A female, right? -- Tom

Female

thanks
