First described in 1852 by Jean Baptiste Boisduval, along with the species lucidus
Explanation of Names
Possibly a combination of Greek arktos (αρκτος)- "bear" and notos (νοτος)- "the South Wind, south", though Latin notus- "known" or a variant of Latin nota- "mark, sign" are possible for the latter half
Numbers
There is only one species in the genus
