Moved from Horse Flies. Atylotus, nice find, you can tell by the lack of the callus- bare shiny spots between the eyes. I'll look up the species momentarily

Atylotus species tend to be extremely localized. Some have large ranges, but they tend to be found only in specific places within those areas. They are also quite difficult to tell apart. My best guess for this one is A. intermedius, but I am not confident enough to make a page. There is an online key by Thomas and Marshall here

 
I looked at the key
and I don't think I can be sure enough to figure it out. The one that seems close is ohioensis, but I could be way off.
