Mystery Dragonfly - Libellula luctuosa - male

Mystery Dragonfly - Libellula luctuosa - Male
Jackson, Jackson County, Michigan, USA
July 8, 2011
What caught my eye was the coppery sheen that flashed across the wings and body when this dragonfly flew - very metallic. I was thinking it might be a female widow skimmer, but this one has some faint dark splotches at the tips of the wings, and the size of the dark splotch on the forewings (close to the body) seemed too big for that species, based on the photos in the book I have.

Terrific!
Thanks bunches!
