To my untrained eyes, there are 15 species of Leaf-cutting and Resin Bees (Megachile) that this could be. Am I even in the right ballpark?

Yes, you are right on the genus. They are sometimes difficult to get to species from an image. Wait for Dr. Ascher to comment.
