Bee-like Insect, but no wings - Dasymutilla aureola - female

Bee-like Insect, but no wings - Dasymutilla aureola - Female
Walnut Creek Open Space, Contra Costa County, California, USA
July 10, 2011
Size: About an inch
Sorry this can't be sharper, but it was running and I could barely keep up. Looks like a bee without wings. "Furry" all over. Have seen these several times, always alone, always on a trail heading toward oak grass. Though I've been walking these trails for 6 months, they only "emerged" in late June.
