Eacles imperialis?? Male or Female? - Eacles imperialis

Eacles imperialis?? Male or Female? - Eacles imperialis
5 miles north of Marengo, Orange County, Indiana, USA
July 10, 2011
Size: estimated: 6 cm
Are they nocturnal? This one flew into a lighted room last night, as soon as the door was open .. not once, but twice. Very erratic flier and not easy to catch in a net. Released back to the outside. Looks similar to a pic shown here of an Eacles imperialis. Don't see these here very often.

Imperialis
You are correct, this is Eacles imperialis, this one is a male based on purplish coloration, antennae shape, and abdomen shape. And yes, they are nocturnal.
