Thank you Martin
for the species ID. I did retain the specimen, with the intention of sending it to Cal. Acad. Sci., along with other insects which I have photographed and collected, the ultimate goal being to link the photos posted at CalPhotos with specimens in the collection at Cal. Acad. If there is some other place that you think this particular specimen should be sent, please let me know.

Hi Gary, I work for the Cali
Hi Gary,
I work for the California State Collection of Arthropods in Sacramento, which is also a nice scientific collection (2 mio specimens):
http://www.cdfa.ca.gov/phpps/ppd/csca.html
I would not mind having it here. On the other hand if you give all your photographic vouchers to CAS, that is also fine with me, I am there frequently. If it is ok, I will use the data of this fly and include it in the paper I am just writing about new invasive Syrphids. It is incredible how quickly this species is spreading. I caught some already this year in Berkeley and NAppa...
Please keep your eyes open, I am interested in every record I can get my hands on.. Thanks,
MArtin
