8 legs, found in bathtub

8 legs, found in bathtub
Washington County, Pennsylvania, USA
July 8, 2011
Size: 1/2 centimeter
This looks very much like a tick but doesn't look like the ticks I have seen in Western Pennsylvania. I am finding these only in the bathroom....mostly in the bathtub, but also the sink and shower. When crushed, they leave a dark gray smear. The photo shows the largest one found, most being smaller. Also, they showed up a year and a half ago. (I have lived in this house for 28 years.)

Moved
Moved from ID Request. I took the liberty of cropping this image to show the bug better - please feel free to restore the original photo if you prefer. The original photo had a ruler that confirmed the body length as 0.5 cm. We have very few images of soft ticks, so although it's a bit blurry, I think it's a good addition to BG...

it's a tick. A 'soft tick', family Argasidae.

Thanks so much for your fast reply! I'll read up on it. What in the heck is it doing in the bathtub?

Do you have bats recently moved in?
I recall reading that some soft ticks are bat parasites.
