Nuttall's Buprestid - Buprestris nutalli - Buprestis nutalli

Nuttall's Buprestid - Buprestris nutalli - Buprestis nutalli
Fort McMurray, Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo, Alberta, Canada
July 11, 2011
Size: ~13mm
Coincidentally, this morning I was looking at pictures of beetles, on a website dedicated to the insects of Alberta, and this little bug came up, and I thought to myself "Hmm, I've never seen one of those, usually I only see Flathead Poplar Borers...".

When I was downtown today doing some errands my grilfriend said "Joel, there is a big bug on your backpack!", so I took it off and lo-and-behold, there was the beetle I was looking at this morning.

Buprestis nuttalli, I believe this is a female correct?

I was trying to take a picture of the orange markings on the abdominal segments, but the beetle flew off before I was able to stop it... Looked like the dorsal surface of the abdomen was an iridescent green colour.

Identity
It is my opinion that this image better fits B. laeviventris, but it is not a clear shot, and does not show either of the critical characters that distinguish the two. Thus, without the specimen in hand, we cannot know. (Posted Feb. 2014)

After further consideration, and having studied these things for over a year, I now agree this is best placed in B. nutalli.
