Moved
Moved from Beetles.

Smaller size suggestive of S. subterraneus, but does not necessarily exclude the usually larger S. vicinus. However, antennal segments appear to be more squarish than rectangular, which is indicative of S. subterraneus.

Scarites sp.
To tell species, we need a size measurement, a good view of the antennae, and possibly a ventral view.

Measurement
The beetle is gone, but I was able to measure the red debris on the left in the photo (8 mm), and calculate that the beetle was 18 mm long.
