Mating insect ID? - Monomorium minimum - Male Female
Seminole, Seminole County, Oklahoma, USA
July 13, 2011
Found several pairs of these insects mating on my fence this morning. I don't know if they're little wasps, or ants, or what? Thanks for any help!

Moved
In the past there might have been a move to put these in M. ergatgyna (a western species), because of the wingless females, but we now know that the eastern M. minimum, especially in the western part of its range, may have them, too. Nice addition to the BG material on this species.

Little black ant
Glad I could contribute!

Moved for expert attention; ants, sure.
Moved from ID Request.

Flying ants...
Thanks V. I just got done looking at the carpenter ants section. Glad I was on the right trail!
