unknown wasp - Trypoxylon - female

unknown wasp - Trypoxylon - Female
Grundy Forest State Natural Area, Grundy County, Tennessee, USA
May 26, 2011
Size: 6 mm
These micro wasps were so common as to be a plague, but they ignored us as they dug out and provisioned their nest holes in wood. They all focused on the wood of a picnic pavillion and nowhere else in the area. They seemed to have a hard time finding their own hole and had to try many holes until they found the right one.
