Leucospis sp. - Leucospis affinis - female

Leucospis sp. - Leucospis affinis - Female
London, Middlesex, Ontario, Canada
July 12, 2011
Found this female drilling holes in my bee breaders yesterday. Note how far she's able to flap the abdominal tergites to get the ovipositor in the right direction. An incredibly sophisticated mechanism! How does she find the right position for placing the egg? It seems to be undirected somehow, cause it's beside the channel, but I assume, it'll work.
