COLD Fuzzy Bumblebee - Xylocopa tabaniformis - male

COLD Fuzzy Bumblebee - Xylocopa tabaniformis - Male
Bonny Doon, Back Ranch Rd area, Santa Cruz County, California, USA
March 29, 2011
Size: 10-15mm?
I found this Bumble bee in the open spaces of one of the recycled tire foot cleaner mats you have outside your farm door, but this was against that protected back of the house. Looked rather dead to me even when I came back 10 minutes later and took the whole mat and put it on my truck hood to photograph. I figured the poor bloke froze the night before as it was really crispy.
About 5 minutes into photographing it the flashes apparently warmed it up so it could move. About 10 minutes I placed it on a stick to get better shots, 15 minutes later after warming it with 55 close up flashes from the twin macro flash, it flew over my shoulder.
My Macro twin flash warms up and saves one more Hymenoptera.

I have 3 more views, out of the 54 good shots I saved, should anything other then the underside need a photo.
