large longhorn - Brothylus gemmulatus

large longhorn - Brothylus gemmulatus
Catalina Island, Los Angeles County, California, USA
July 2, 2011
Size: ~40mm+
The flash probably washed out the color slightly, but wondering if ID is still possible on this large longhorn. I should have tried to get better photos but I thought this was something else so I didn't try too hard. I will be on the lookout for this one when I go back in two weeks.

Moved from ID Request.

Brothylus gemmulatus LeConte
Length on a large female is generally around 23 mm. They bore in the heart wood of oaks.

thanks Dennis
i suppose the size could be an overestimation. The antenna length likely made it appear bigger than it was, and it was pitch black when I shot it so I guess I didn't get a real good feel for its size.
