Large Black Beetle in north central Massachusetts - Carabus nemoralis

Large Black Beetle in north central Massachusetts - Carabus nemoralis
Ashby, Sussex County, Massachusetts, USA
July 15, 2011
Size: 2"
This fellow jumped out at me (in the figurative sense) because of his size and dark color against the light grass. At first I thought he was eating a flower stalk but when I looked at my images, I saw that he was grasping a worm. Thank you for any ID you can provide.

European Ground Beetle?
This must be C. nemoralis. I've gotten several in pitfalls this summer and can say pretty confidently that this is nemoralis.
