shiny brown spider in Central Florida - Kukulcania hibernalis

shiny brown spider in Central Florida - Kukulcania hibernalis
Sanford, Seminole County, Florida, USA
July 18, 2011
Just found this spider on the wall of the garage by the ceiling. It was at least an inch long. We see spiders all the time but don't recognize this one. Any ideas? Thanks!

Moved
Moved from ID Request.

Looks a lot like
the Southern Black House Spider, Kukulcania hibernalis. :)

Thanks! : )
So glad it's not a recluse or a widow. Thanks! :)

agreed. Kukulcania hibernalis
brown recluse are only found in extreme north western FL. in theory, they should not be anywhere near Seminole Co.

Interesting..
.. because I was born and raised in Central Florida and was always told they were here. But, being curious after reading your comment, I googled and it looks like there are only a few confirmed cases and no breeding populations. I'm so surprised! Not to mention a year ago our neighbor said he was bitten by one, and it was not pretty at all.. took weeks to heal. Maybe it was something else?

Anyway, I always enjoy learning something new. Thanks!

You're welcome!
I'm glad to help!
