Lace Bug (Tingidae), I think

 
yup; a Corythucha
several spp. are quite common in our area, but hardly IDable based on external traits alone; oftentimes one must know the host plant to start [NB: lone adults regularly show up on non-host plants]

True.
However, this one is one of the most distinctive Corythucha in this area. It's Corythucha marmorata(The Chrysanthemum Lace Bug). Though I can't quite see all its features well enough, C. marmorata is the only species with several dark bands on the wings that occurs in the northeast.
