Gyrinid of some kind - Gyrinus plicifer

Gyrinid of some kind - Gyrinus plicifer
Aromas, San Benito County, California, USA
July 18, 2011
Size: ~5mm length.
Came to black light/MV trap. (live oak/chaparral habitat).

Moved
Moved from Beetles.

Gyrinus sp.
Do you have a photo of the venter? I suspect I know which species this is.

Thank you Brady
for the genus ID. Unfortunately, I have no photo of the venter, the beetle flew away before I was finished taking photos, otherwise I would have retained the specimen. We have a small (6'x10'x3'deep) pond with 20' stream and recirculating pump in our yard, which is where I suspect he came from. I'll have the black light/MV trap out again tonight and will attempt to retain any of these guys that appear.
