Robber fly with captured Great Blue Skimmer - Promachus hinei - female

Robber fly with captured Great Blue Skimmer - Promachus hinei - Female
Bartlesville, Washington County, Oklahoma, USA
July 21, 2011
What I first thought was a fight between two dragonflies turned out to be a robber fly capturing
a Great Blue Skimmer dragonfly. The dragonfly was very quickly subdued.
I picked the pair off of the ground and placed it on a trash container lid for the photograph.

Moved
Moved from Robber Flies.

Promachus
hinei female. This species and Triorla are the usual dragonslayers. And dragons put up much less fight than grasshoppers but there is little chance if the robber gets the back of the head or thorax quickly.
