Brachiacantha » unidentified ursina group (Brachiacantha unidentified ursina group) - Brachiacantha
Greenville, Providence County, Rhode Island, USA
June 26, 2011
Size: ~3/16"
I came across this pair which appear to be mating in late June. I have a large stand of Coneflowers which had not blossomed yet, but the "buds" were developing.
This pair was on a leaf closest to the stem of one Coneflower. I wonder if they are one of the many color variations found in Asian Lady Bugs? I've looked in field guides, the Guide here at this site, and cannot find a match.

Brachiacantha, probably B. ursina
These are a native species in genus Brachiacantha, although I am not sure from these photos whether they are B. ursina or B. decempustulata. I think B. ursina is a better match based on size but can't say for sure.

Brachiacantha of sorts
