Eristalis transversa - Syrphus

Eristalis transversa - Syrphus
Lindon, Utah County, Utah, USA
July 24, 2011
Size: house fly

Moved from Syrphini.

"Typical" Syrphini band patterns, no black border on the abdomen, straight R4+5 vein, and oval abdomen make it one of these three genera.

This isn't Eristalis - note the absence of the curving vein in the wing. Sometimes E. transversa can look from certain angles like Syrphini, and vice versa - the wing is helpful for that.
