Double-ringed Pennant (Celithemis verna) ? - Libellula incesta

Double-ringed Pennant (Celithemis verna) ? - Libellula incesta
Greensboro, Gulford County, North Carolina, USA
July 25, 2011
There were several of these around the pond at the community college where I work.
A hot morning! There were lots of other dragonflies, but most of them were too busy or too shy to pose like this one.

This is a male Slaty Skimmer.

OK, but if you have a moment,
could you say why it is not a Double-ringed Pennant or a male Common Nighthawk?
Thanks, Corey.

ID
A Double-ringed would show a black area on the hindwings where the wings meet the body. And I assume you mean Common Pondhawk :), which tends to have a greenish thorax and green eyes.

Thanks, Corey.
That's good info. Odonata are new to me. I really need a longer lens to get the kind of pictures I want.
The words "pond" and "hawk" dont go together well for me. :-(
I'm a long-time birder, and "nighthawk" is just part of my vocabulary!
