Moved
Moved from Gomphus.

Cherokee
It looks good for Cherokee Clubtail to me, too. The abdomen should have fewer pale dorsal markings on Sable. Additionally, the frontal thoracic stripe pattern averages different between the two species, with Sable's being narrower and more "pinched" and the anterior end (sometimes disconnecting it entirely from the anterior yellow base). This bug looks more like Cherokee in this respect, too. Nice find!

Plus the pale occiput
which effectively eliminates Sable, which (supposedly) is always black. I'm moving it.

Nice
I think this looks like Cherokee Clubtail (Gomphus consanguis), which is a rare, Southern Appalachians endemic. Do you have any close-up shots of the cerci, or shots that show the side of the thorax?

Whatever it is, its a nice bug.

no sory.
This is what I got for now. If I find another one, I will try to get mosre shots.
