Millepede - Narceus americanus-annularis-complex

Millepede - Narceus americanus-annularis-complex
Promised Land, Pike County, Pennsylvania, USA
May 24, 2004
This milleped was quite large, over 1 1/2 inches if my memory is right.

Narceus americanus (Beauvois,
Narceus americanus (Beauvois, 1817) (Spirobolida: Spirobolidae) again, the most common millipede species in eastern North America.

stupid question?
This might be a stupid question, but so be it! ;)

Is this the common little millipede I always see when I turn over logs? Those seem just plain brownish. I've never seen one with red stripes, and certainly none reaching 3 inches. I'd LOVE to see this fellow, though. He's gorgeous.

Nope
I think you may be referring to the fellows in this group here which do look like small plain versions.

Possibly Narceus americana, North American Millipede.
It gets large; over 3 inches long.

Thanks
Mark - Thank you for the help. It probably was closer to three inches now that I'm thinking about it.
