Big waspy critter - Cimbex americanus

Big waspy critter - Cimbex americanus
Gunnison, Colorado, USA
July 16, 2011
Size: appears large. >2"(?)
Mid day at the border to the West Elk Wilderness Area in Gunnison National Forest some miles west of Crested Butte at Beckwith Pass. The critter was crawling on the Natl Forest sign. Insect left while we were observing the scenery. Maybe it was attracted to the wood of the sign.
