Neoscona crucifera - female

Neoscona crucifera - Female
Raleigh, Wake County, North Carolina, USA
July 20, 2011
This is the earliest in the year that I have noticed the Neoscona orbweavers around my house, in oak and pine woods. This time I got dorsal and ventral and a lateral shot on the same female who was only 5 feet above the ground. The next day there was a large insect wrapped up in the center of the web but she had retreated to the gutter. Haven't seen her in the week since nor any other. Another N. crucifera individual, much redder, smaller, had been concealed at another door on the same day as this one but I saw no web there, only one line.

Moved from ID Request. It's interesting that they are early this year.
