Red-Sided Flat Millipede (Sigmoria aberrans) - Pleuroloma

Red-Sided Flat Millipede (Sigmoria aberrans) - Pleuroloma
Tallahassee, Florida, USA
August 4, 2004
Reaches a length of up to 3", but typical specimens are a bit smaller. This is a very innocuous millipede that feeds mainly upon leaf detritus. Habitat range in the US is mainly in the south. Sometimes also called the Tennessee flat-backed millipede.

Moved
Moved from Almond Millipede. Comments below suggest this is a Pleuroloma and not a Sigmoria.

Confused
Why is this under Sigmoria when Rowland says that it most likely is Pleuroloma? It would be safer to move it to family level.
Beutiful shot!

I suspect this is Pleuroloma
I suspect this is Pleuroloma plana Shelley, 1980. It cannot be S. aberrans, which is a synonym of Sigmoria latior latior (Brolemann, 1900), which occurs from southern West Virginia to the "Triangle" region of North Carolina
