Ants on Partridge Pea - Formica incerta

Ants on Partridge Pea - Formica incerta
Puccoon Prairie, Chichaqua Bottoms Greenbelt, Polk County, Iowa, USA
July 29, 2011
All of the Chamaechrista fasciculata that I saw had these ants on them, tending extrafloral nectaries. gathering_2011

Moved
A typical prairie ant, and very fond of partridge pea petiolar nectaries. This was the most abundant ant, both generally, and at partridge pea nectaries, when I visited Chichaqua a few years ago, also.
