The wings of this fly seem to be too small to get it airborne. I tried to encourage it to fly--it did not, but instead walked on to my hand. Is it flightless? I am not sure.

sweet!
My impression is Myiomyrmica fenestrata. But don't count that as an ID. I am not sure if there are species with which it may be confused. Should be relatively easily keyed using MND, if it was collected.

Nice find and great pic!

Fly with small wings
I did not collect a specimen but Andrew Meads did. We were all part of the Bugguide 2011 gathering. (It was a lot of fun)
Pardon my ignorance, but what is MND?
I did move the image to the Myiomyrmica fenestrata page, understanding that the ID is tentative. I looked at my images, and I think this is female and I have a male image as well which I will post soon.
Thanks for the comment. I will contact Andrew and see if he kept the specimen.

Yep
It's right here in front of me. Anything in particular to do with the specimen?

MND
Sorry. Manual of Nearctic Diptera. Looking forward to the additional image(s).
