Pale Metarranthis - Metarranthis indeclinata - male

Pale Metarranthis - Metarranthis indeclinata - Male
Long Pond, Sag Harbor, Suffolk County, New York, USA
June 6, 2004
This is the phenotype that I call Metarranthis indeclinata. Several of the photos under this name at Bug-guide appear to show M. refractaria, which is in my opinion due to confusion as to which phenotypes to associate with names on several popular ID web sites. You will note that several of the other photos don't actually show a pale moth, whereas my photo does. I'm not saying I am correct, but this is how to apply the names according to how the collections at AMNH and USNM are currently curated. This is a genus badly in need of revision (I know of three commonly occurring undescribed taxa that occur in the east) and we may not be able to have accurate IDs until such a revision occurs.
