Willow Gall Limb Borer - Agrilus politus - male

Willow Gall Limb Borer - Agrilus politus - Male
Groton, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, USA
July 30, 2011
Size: 6.7mm
Found on a hazelnut leaf.

Moved
Moved from Agrilus pseudocoryli.
Ted, thanks for making sure the id was correct on this one. Now I'll have to find a real Agrilus pseudocoryli.

I hope you do...
I have not yet seen that species myself. Keep looking on Corylus.

Agrilus politus...
While the occurrence of this individual on Corylus would suggest Agrilus pseudocoryli (A. politus is usually associated with willow and sometimes maple), examination of the specimen (a male) shows the frons is green (in pseudocoryli the males have the frons the same color as the rest of the body) and the pro- and mesotarsal claws have the inner claw not at all turned inward (albeit slightly wider and shorter than the outer). This seems to have been simply an adventurous A. politus.

Moved from Agrilus.
Thanks Joshua. I've got it saved and will keep it separate from the others.

possibly Agrilus pseudocoryli Fisher
Hey Tom you may have added another to the guide. Since you found this on hazelnut I'm going to say it is Agrilus pseudocoryli Fisher. It once was a subspecies to Agrilus politus. If you were able to collect this one please keep it separate from the others.
