Podurid or hypogastrurid? How can you tell the difference? Dozens of them in and on a dying tree at the shore of a lake.

Hypogastruridae
Hi Andy. Based on the habitat, it is Hypogastruridae not Poduridae.

Could someone move these images to the Hypogastruridae section, pls?

Difference between podurid and hypogastrurid
Hi Andy. You have to observe whether they can jump into the air or not. Poking them with a small stick might do the test. The furca, the jumping device, is underneath its body. Try also to spot shedded skins in the population of springtails. If the furca has two long arms, it is a podurid. If it has two short arms, it is a hypogastrurid. If the furca is lacking, it is most probably a neanurid.

Thanks!
That is very helpful information. I will use it next time I'm there.
