Took me a long time to figure out what this might be as it seemed so much lighter than many of the photos on internet . . . it appears that only some of the Pearl Crescents have the two dark spots inside the pale patches on the "tornal" part of the forewings as this one does (I looked that up on http://roundrockgarden.wordpress.com/butterfly-parts)

a female. You are correct, there is usually only one dark "tornal spot", but two is more likely to be seen in this species than in most. The light coloring is I think largely because this is an old worn individual.
