Beetle was small - perhaps 1cm long? Crawling on Red Alder (Alnus rubra) leaf.

size estimate
I'm pretty bad at size estimation (especially when I don't think about it at the time) - it's entirely possible that the beetle was closer to .5cm or smaller. If I get a chance, I'll measure a Red Alder leaf and see what the separation on the teeth typically is, the other photo shows the beetle on the edge, so perhaps that should offer a little confirmation one way or the other.

don't go into too much trouble about size
i'm pretty confident about genus, and the leaf surface provides enough reference anyway; if i had to choose out of the two spp. recorded in AK, i would lean towards
A. sericea
(Mnnh.)
the group is quite orphaned, but please try to find & photograph more of them --shouldn't be a problem: these guys usually run all over the foliage of woodland shrubs, &c.
once we've got sharp pix, i'll show them around
