A few flowerheads of the very abundant Yellow Coneflowers (Ratibida pinnata) in this prairie were distorted by unusual growths of some disc flowers. Are these galls?

According to Gagne (1) this gall is only known from Texas, on R. columnifera, but it must be the same species. It is evidently the only gall recorded from Ratibida.
