Size: 10 mm
This velvet ant was running along the side of the road and I got a photo on the fly. (I was actually panning with the insect as it ran, and that is apparently why the background sand is a bit blurred, though I'm surprised to see that with flash.) Browsing through images here, it sure looks like Dasymutilla quadriguttata to me, so I'm putting it there. For example, compare these images:
