Phidippus juvenile
Chuck, this is obviously a juvenile Phidippus, but I can't positively ID it to species. It could be one of several similar species that you have in CA. It is most likely a johnsoni or adumbratus, but I think genus is as far as we can take this one.

The diversity in my little ecosystem never ceases to surprise me: I thought it was neat when I knew of a dozen species of spiders on my 100 x 52 foot lot. Now I've doubled that and I'm still going. And what I thought was one Salticid species has turned into three. Wow!
